AKSL Winter Tournament The July tournament was yet again another successful one thanks to the participation of so many great competitors, their instructors and coaches and the officials and volunteers as well as the entertainment from guest guitarist Jonathan Geange.Karate tournaments in QLD have taken on a wholenew direction with a fresh new vision! The AKSL WinterTournament was a great success because the Karate community in QLD are enthusiastic about this fresh vision in karate competition.The people behind the scenes were absolutely fantastic! We could not say enough to express ourgraditude of such people!" They made the day for what it was, a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere with great sportmanship.

WHY COMPETE in the AKSL?
The AKSL is open to ALL karate styles and organisations. We welcome competitors and referees from Shotokan, Shito Ryu, Goju Ryu, Goju Kai, Wado Ryu, GKR, Kyokoshin and all other karate styles. We provide great prizes for all events as well as random sponsor giveways.
The AKSL is an exciting new generation all karate styles tournament based on WKF rules. We are a group of experienced sports coaches, referees and competitors who are only interested in providing a safe, positive and compeditive environment.

COMPETITION Rules & Requirements
All AKSL tournaments run under a modified World Karate Federation (WKF) rules. Why use World Karate Federation (WKF) rules?The WKF are the IOC recognised world body for karate and for future inclusion into the Olympic Games. WKF competition rules are being written in consultation with the IOC for use in future Olympic Games as well as the World Games. A copy of the rules can be found here: http://www.wkf.net/images/stories/downloads/version_6_january_2009_eng.pdfCompulsory equipment for all kumite events:Gloves - Red and Blue WKF style. Shin-Instep protectors. (Recommend Red and Blue WKF style) Groin protectors for male kumite competitors.Mouth guards for all kumite competitors.Chest protectors optional for female competitors.WKF Face guards are optional. Do not worry if you currently dont have any WKF style equipment, as the AKSL will have some available for use on the day.
Registration is at 8am and its important that you arrive on time to ensure you have enough time to prepare yourself for the day.Upon registration each compeditor is issued an AKSL registration number which is then stuck on the back of your gi (karate uniform), when you hear your number called, its time for you to compete! If its your first time competing and you are unsure of things, dont worry as each competition ring has a ring master and they will be more than happy to help you in anyway.Start time is at 8:45am with all the compeditors walking on in there teams/organisation. We then will bow in and the first event will start at 9:00am.We run the first part of the day up until 12pm, we then take a lunch break and start the second part of the competition from 12:30pm.Food is available to purchase on the day or you can bring your own food if you wish, all we ask is that everyone is responsible and places all rubbish in the allocated bins please.

AKSL Winter Tournament Results
This year the AKSL was running a pionts system to determine first to third place overall tournament champions. First place winners receive $300, Second place winners receive $200 and third place winners receive $100.Congratulations to the following clubs!Third place went to: Toowoomba Karate, Sensei Peter Wetherspoon.Second place went to: JKA Brisbane South, Sensei Mike Connolly.First place going to: SKK from the Gold Coast, Sensei Kawamoto.
